Mpumalanga achieved a 79% overall pass rate, while Steve Tshwete Circuit 3 scooped the number one spot in the province. Hosting a breakfast in Aerorand to honour the top achievers, Mayor Tolo spoke about the importance of preparing learners for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he also urged the achievers to return to the town after their studies. Johnathan Mtshweni, a former Mphanama Secondary School learner, told the honourees to not lose focus at university. Laurike Erasmus of Hoër Tegniese Skool Middelburg was named the top matric achiever in the municipality, followed by Sabiha Patel in second position. Naledi Masehla of Mphanama Secondary School received third place.
