Two Brothers die in Monsterlus house fire
A burning candle is suspected of causing the blaze that destroyed a home in Dindela Village, claiming two lives.
Two brothers died when a fire gutted their home in Dindela Village, Monsterlus, on September 26.
Police in Hlogotlou have opened an inquest into the incident.
Stemer Skhosana (60) and his brother Philemon (62) were reportedly asleep when the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning.
Limpopo police spokesperson Sergeant Maphure Manamela said the brothers were found dead inside the house when police arrived.
The Local Criminal Record Centre and Forensic Pathology Services also attended.
“An investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Manamela said.

Community suspects candle caused blaze
Family spokesperson and neighbour Kosabo Sibanyoni described the incident as a tragic accident.
According to Sibanyoni, Stemer had been discharged from hospital about two weeks before the fire after being admitted due to poor health.
He said the brothers shared a bedroom, with Stemer sleeping on a mattress on the floor and Philemon on the bed.
Sibanyoni said Philemon allegedly inhaled smoke while attempting to rescue his brother from the fire. He added that community members believe a candle had been left burning on the floor.
“What happened has left all of us in shock,” he said.

A funeral service is planned for October 3, pending the outcome of the post-mortem examinations.
Sekhukhune District Municipality Mayor Minah Bahula and Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor David Tladi visited the homestead on September 29 to offer support to the bereaved family.
