Gloria Mine update: 7 more bodies discovered when operations were put on hold
The slow progress of recovery at the Gloria mineshaft has been delayed yet again, after the generator feeding ventilation into the shaft, broke down.
Mr Mike Elliot, who’s at the lead of the rescue, has informed www.mobserver.co.za that the rescue teams are awaiting technicians from Johannesburg to come and repair the generator before operations can commence.
New information about the discovery of seven more bodies within the shaft have been confirmed.

Mr Elliot disclosed that the intitial descent of recue teams allowed for the discovery. The bodies are roughly 1.5 kms underground from the shaft entrance and proto teams had made significant progress until the generator failed.
He confirmed that the risk of an explosion is still a concern and that rescue teams will, under no circumstances, enter the shaft until ventilation has been restored.
