Chaos erupts at Doornkop’s Mkhulu Combined School

Learners danced and sang with joy as the principal drove off.

Learners and parents of Mkhulu Combined School in Doornkop, assembled at the school since early this morning demanding the removal of the school’s embattled principal.

Police had to discharge rubber bullets and employ pepper spray to disperse the protesting group, eyewitnesses say.

Both learners and parents demand the removal of the school’s principal, Duduzile Lusenga.

Principal Lusenga was ordered to leave the school premises for her own safety around 10:00.

Learners danced and sang with joy as the principal drove off.

A list of complaints against Ms Lusenga have been handed to the Department of Education.

The department said it would investigate the matter, urging calm.

Principal Lusenga is being accused of mismanaging school funds and unilaterally hiring and firing of educators.

Parents staged a picket outside the school in October 2020, with learners and parents vowing to continue the protests until their demands are met.
