Gijimane July Nkabinde (57) was struck and killed by a truck at the Middelburg weighbridge.

It was believed that Mr Nkabinde was pulling over a vehicle when the incident occurred, however, in a media statement, Moeti Mmusi from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) said, “It is alleged that at the time he was directing the truck to the weighbridge situated along the road.”

The MEC of DCSSL, Mr Vusi Shongwe, sent his condolences to the family of the late traffic officer. He also urged law enforcers not to be discouraged by Mr Nkabinde’s passing, instead, officers should continue enforcing traffic laws in honour of Mr Nkabinde..

The truck driver has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide.
