The N4 near Waterval Boven remains closed after five trucks were torched shortly after midnight.

It is believed that the torching is connected to the hijacking of a petrol tanker.

According to personnel from JJA Towing, reports suggest that five trucks were torched, but only three could be seen by the team due to the excessive heat caused by the blaze.

• Motorists are advised that the N4 between the Schoemanskloof turn-off and the NZASM tunnel remains closed due to vehicle recovery.
