Fire destroys well-known pub

The cause and origin of the fire is unknown at this stage.

A massive fire destroyed Kakiebos Kafee on Watt Street in the industrial area last night.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cost of the repairs is not yet known, with the front of the establishment suffering the brunt of the damage, and the upstairs bar, which was mainly constructed of wood, irreversibly destroyed.

This is the second major fire in Middelburg this week, with a mansion on Van Elders Street also suffering significant damage.

The Middelburg Observer was at the scene this morning, where the fire department was investigating.

Kakiebos Kafee is currently closed, but manager Yolandie Koorsen told the Observer, “We will be back up and running as soon as possible, currently we are obtaining all information and assessing the extent of the damage, but we will be back.”

Video footage of last night’s fire can be found below.
