Missing 80-year-old’s vehicle found abandoned on farm

The investigation into Jeff Clapperton's disappearance has gained momentum after his vehicle was found abandoned on a farm situated outside eMalaheni.

A journalist from the Middelburg Observer received a tip-off from a farmer, who identified himself as Phillip Tlau alleging that the white Hyundai Atos Prime Jeff was travelling in was found abandoned on his farm after getting stuck in the sand of the dirt road.

Phillip’s herdsmen also allegedly saw an elderly man fitting Jeff’s description walking back to the main road.

The vehicle is believed to have been abandoned on the Zaaihoek Farm situated on the R554 near Blesboklaagte.

Jeff Clapperton (80) is still missing.

The information provided to the journalist was then relayed to Jeff’s daughter, Jayne Lombaard, and the family then proceeded to drive out to the farm to confirm whether it is his vehicle.

The Witbank SAPS have also been informed.

• While Phillip provided a photo of the vehicle, which shares the same registration as Jeff’s Atos, Jayne has not yet confirmed if the vehicle belongs to her father.

There is no trace of Jeff at the moment.
