Four suspects in school robbery released on bail

The four suspects who were arrested in connection with the theft of 52 school laptops were released on bail after their first appearance yesterday.

Nkosinathi Mguni (25), Johannes Phala (23), Boitumetse Nkosi (19) and Donna Mthimunye (22) appeared in the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court yesterday where they were released on R1 000 bail.

Their appearance followed their arrest on Monday in connection with the robbery at Eastdene Combined School in which 52 laptops to the value of R660 000 were stolen.

It is alleged that the suspects broke into the school last week Wednesday during load-shedding hours and restrained the security guard on duty by tying him up with his shoelaces and covering his face.

The suspects then proceeded to break open the padlock to a roller-door and stole the school’s laptops before fleeing in the direction of Pilodia Street.

After the guard managed to free himself, Titon Security was alerted and responded to the scene.

The date of their next appearance could not yet be confirmed.
