Woman and two babies killed in N4 collision

A woman, a toddler and an infant were killed upon impact in a collision earlier this morning on the N4.

The brutal collision occurred at 07:10 this morning close to the Machadodorp tollgate between a minibus taxi and a truck.

It has been reliably confirmed that the taxi was coming from Maputo and was dragging a trailer carrying sweet potatoes, coconuts and luggage when the trailer broke causing the taxi to swerve violently and lose control.

The taxi then veered into oncoming traffic where it collided with the truck before crashing into the opposing side’s barrier.

A girl estimated to be one-year-old or younger was flung from the vehicle and was killed upon impact.

Emergency services battled until 11:30 to free an entrapped mother and her infant boy, who was still clutched in her arms, where it was determined that they were also killed.

Motorists are advised to approach with caution as vehicle recovery may still be underway.
