Police divers recover drowned victim from quarry

SAPS divers recovered a man's body from a quarry behind 4SAI on Sunday afternoon.

Middelburg Police dispatched divers to the scene shortly after 16:00 when a man went missing around 14:00.

An eyewitness, at the scene, told the Middelburg Observer that a group of youngsters had been swimming in the quarry, which is a popular spot for them on Sundays, as well as for bikers who enjoy riding in the nearby mountainous area.

The family is yet to formally identify the victim.

Emergency services are currently waiting for the forensic pathologists to transport the deceased to the state mortuary.
