What happened to poacher’s dog?

What happened to the dog?

This is the question on people’s lips after a game poacher died last week after suffocating in a warthog hole.

A photo obtained by the Middelburg Observer shows the poacher’s foot sticking out of the hole and his dog watching over him.
Readers expressed concern about the dog’s well-being and enquired with the newspaper about his whereabouts.

The incident took place in the Roossenekal area.

Meanwhile, farmers from the area say the poacher did not flee after he was spotted on the farm but crawled into the hole to kill an animal that was hiding there.
They base the assumption on the fact that a video shows the poacher had equipment, such as a spear, lying outside the hole where he suffocated.

The farmer on whose farm the incident took place did not want to comment but did confirm that the dog ran away and they are looking for him because he is likely to mow among the small game.

The farmer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that there were three dogs with the poacher.

There have been serious crime incidents on the farm before.
