Earthquake detected at time of blast

Shortly after an explosion was heard and felt across Middelburg, an earthquake report was circulated on social media.

The report states that an earthquake to the magnitude of 2.91 on the Richter scale was detected at 13:18 today, 22 kilometres outside eMalahleni.

The report further indicated that the quake was detected by eight seismic instruments and that its energy is equivalent to approximately 349.47 kilograms of TNT.
