Seven people killed in taxi collision on N4

Seven people were killed in a collision between a taxi and a truck last night on the N4 near Middelburg.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the collision occurred at roughly 23:00 last night after the taxi which was coming from Johannesburg heading towards Mozambique is believed to have lost control.

The taxi was pulling a trailer and overturned, also being struck by the heavy motor vehicle.

“Six people were seriously injured, and three more people escaped with slight injuries. The deceased includes six passengers and a taxi driver,” the statement read.

All the injured were rushed to the hospitals in Middelburg for further medical attention. The driver of the truck was not harmed.
