Children sent home due to lack of food

Children staying at the Platorand Special School hostel have been sent home because the school has no food to serve them.

According to a reliable source, the Department of Education has not paid an outstanding debt of R60 000 to their supplier, therefore the school has been unable to order further food for the children to eat.

This is a major disruption in the lives of the children and parents, as the children of Platorand are special needs and might not have the necessary care at home.

The Middelburg Observer reached out to the Department of Education for comment, and their spokesperson denied these allegations, stating that no learners have been sent home due to a lack of food.

The Observer also contacted the school, but they replied with “No comment.”
