Most wanted suspect wounded during arrest
A 32-year-old on the SAPS most wanted list, suspected of housebreaking, and who allegedly stabbed a police officer during an earlier attack, was nabbed on Tuesday.
It is said that he tried his usual tricks by resisting arrest, and wrestling with police officers, also threatening to stab the arresting officers.
The suspect is believed to have been involved in various reported housebreaking incidents in Belfast, carried out between 2020 up to his arrest.
According to information, one of the housebreaking victims alerted police on the whereabouts of the suspect.
Members responded to the tipoff armed with a warrant of arrest.
As he tried to attack the members with a knife, the men and women in blue reportedly fired some shots, wounding the suspect on one of his feet.
He was taken to hospital for medical treatment under police guard.
The suspect faces several charges, including housebreaking, resisting arrest, as well as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will also be investigating the shooting that occurred during the suspect’s arrest.
He is expected to appear in Belfast Magistrate’s Court soon.
Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges as the investigation continues.
