Criminals target traffic lights

A syndicate that damages and steals essential municipal infrastructure is causing a headache for motorists and ratepayers.

Today (Monday), the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality urged residents to report essential infrastructure thefts.
This comes after thieves stole traffic light cables at the intersection of Verdoorn-and Zuid Street, on the Hendrina road (N11), and Dr Mandela Drive.

The latest hit occurred yesterday (Sunday) when the thieves vandalised the traffic lights on the Hendrina road and in Extension 24.

The municipality has urged residents to report incidents to the Law Enforcement Department on 082 501 1879.

In the meantime, the traffic department, law enforcement, and the SAPS are on the lookout for the suspects.
