R542 Van Dyksdrift road closed due to extreme danger

A truck crashed into a pylon on the R542 Van Dyksdrift road, causing high-voltage wires to become exposed. Eskom officials are currently at the scene to safely remove the pylon from the truck.

A car allegedly skipped the T-junction, causing the driver of a truck to lose control and swerve into the pylon.
The driver of the car sustained head lacerations, and the passenger sustained serious injuries. The driver of the truck was unharmed.

At 08:00 this morning, Eskom officials arrived at the scene. They planned to set poles around the truck in an attempt to lift the pylon from the heavy motor vehicle.

The high-voltage wires pose an extreme risk.

Eskom has now decided that the best and safest course of action is to cut the wires, as they pose too big a risk in any other method of removal.
They will be cutting the power to the line, which at this stage is set to only affect residents in the Kriel area.

The public is urged to use alternative routes, as the road will be closed for an unknown amount of time.
