R542 Van Dyksdrift road finally open

After five days, the R542 Van Dyksdrift road was opened yesterday evening after being closed due to the extreme danger posed by exposed high-voltage wires.

On November 2, a car allegedly skipped a T-junction, causing a truck to swerve off the road and crash into a pylon, which led to the high-voltage wires sprawling across the road.

Eskom was unable to devise a plan to safely remove the wires from the road until yesterday evening.

Members of the Community in Blue, namely Stephan Grobler, worked tirelessly over the past few days to divert traffic away from the area.

Miraculously, the truck driver was unharmed, but the driver of the car sustained head lacerations, and the passenger suffered serious injuries.
