Bankenveld couple robbed at Dullstroom retreat, husband killed

Husband pays wife life while protecting his wife against Dullstroom robbers

A Bankenveld, eMalahleni family is mourning the murder of a family man who was shot and killed in Dullstroom shortly before five this morning.

Two robbers gained entry to the unit of the couple around 04:20 this morning.

According to the grieving wife, she heard a window shatter and realised shortly after two men had entered the room at the guest house they were holidaying in over the weekend.

The husband jumped out of bed to protect his wife when two shots rang out.

The woman followed her husband who chased after the robbers, when the man collapsed outside of the unit.

She ran back to the room to phone for help from fellow travellers but realised her phone was missing.

She then ran to neighbouring units pleading for help.

A security guard advised the travellers to immediately transport the injured man to Belfast Hospital for emergency treatment, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim sustained two fatal gunshot wounds.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and anyone with information should contact their nearest police station.

The identity of the deceased is known to the Middelburg Observer but will not be divulged until all of his next of kin is informed about his tragic passing.
