Mr Wickham was shot and killed while protecting his wife Magda during an early hour invasion of their Wolery guest room at Browns’ in Dullstroom on Sunday, November 26.

Two armed assailants gained entry to their cottage around 04:20 after breaking a window.

The attackers immediately demanded the keys to the Wickham’s vehicle, before firing off a volley of shots, with three fatally striking Mr Wickham.
Despite being gravely wounded, Mr Wickham pursued his attackers to the outside of their unit, where he collapsed.

Fellow SA Bass Angling Association members rushed to Mr Wickham’s aid, rushing him to Belfast Hospital some 30 km away from the guest house, where he was declared deceased upon arrival.

The Wickhams were booked into the guest house to attend a 2024 planning session by the SA Bass Angling Association.

Mr Wickham was a SABAA (South African Bass Angling Association) Mpumalanga committee member and served as the Northern Division Junior President.

Mr Wickham returned from Portugal in October where he represented South Africa at an international bass angling championship decider.
He boasted two caps as Protea Junior Bass Team Manager, and also served twice as the SABAA President’s Team Manager.

Mr Wickham’s dream was to see his two sons, Tristan and Nathan, become respected anglers, with both obtaining their Protea angling colours.

According to provincial SAPS spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, no arrests have been made and the police appeal to the public to come forward with any information in order to get the killers off the streets.

Mpumalanga residents who might know anything should contact their nearest police station Brigadier Mohlala urged.
