Man arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm

The police in Dullstroom confiscated an unlicensed revolver from a 24-year-old man and arrested him last Thursday at 07:30.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the arrest occurred after a 47-year-old victim reported an incident to the police on November 28.

The victim said he was leaving a tavern in the area to go to his vehicle when he found a man standing near his car, allegedly pointing a firearm at him.
The victim managed to escape and reported the incident to the police, and a case of pointing a firearm was registered for investigation.

Brigadier Mohlala said on December 14, the police received further information that the suspect was at his residence.

They went to the suspect’s home and allegedly found him with an unregistered revolver. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and pointing a firearm.
The firearm was confiscated and will undergo ballistic testing.

Brigadier Mohlala said more charges could be added against the suspect, who is expected to appear at the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on December 18.
