Suspect accused of stealing three bakkies arrested
Thanks to Operation Shanela, a 39-year-old male suspect was arrested, with three reportedly stolen bakkies recovered in Emalahleni yesterday.
According to a report, information was received about reportedly stolen vehicles.
The Provincial Task team consisted of members from Kwamhlanga Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), Middelburg Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), Middelburg Flying Squad Unit, and Tactical Response Team.
The details were followed and led them to a certain premises where the astute members discovered the three bakkies, a white Nissan NP 300 with Mpumalanga registration number plates.
The vehicle was reported stolen at Berea in the Gauteng Province in March 2023. When conducting an investigation, it was established that the car belonged to an American International Insurance company.

The second vehicle found on that premises is a silver Toyota Hilux bakkie with Mpumalanga registration number plates and it was reported stolen in Emalahleni in May 2023. According to the SAPS records, the lawful owner of the vehicle is the Department of Health.
The third vehicle found in the premises is a Toyota Hilux, gold in colour and it was reported stolen in Bellville (Western Cape) in July 2023.
Besides the charges of possession of suspected stolen properties, a charge of fraud was laid against the suspect.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has been elated with the recovery of the three bakkies as well as the arrest of the suspect.
“We acknowledge with much appreciation, the contribution made by those that provided the valuable information and the swift response, which all led to the breakthrough,” said the General.
