35-Year-old man found with stolen bakkie

The Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday that a 35-year-old man was remanded in custody after his brief appearance at the Hendrina Magistrate's Court on January 2.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested after being found with a stolen vehicle on December 30.

The accused, Thabo Brian Ngwenya, was intercepted on the R38 road from Middelburg towards Hendrina by the Middelburg Flying Squad.

Following a tip-off about a motor vehicle reported stolen in Sinoville in December 2023, investigators reportedly cordoned off all possible escape routes.

As a result, a grey Nissan Navara matching the description of the stolen vehicle was spotted on the said road, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was driving the reported stolen car.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the car could have been destined for Mozambique.

The matter was postponed to Friday, January 5, for a formal bail application and the suspect remains in custody.
