Foetus found in rubbish dump

A group of recyclers rummaging through the waste at a dump site made the the tragic discovery.

On December 31, another foetus was found at the Nasaret dumping site.

The police were quickly alerted and opened a concealment of birth case.

Middelburg has a baby safe at St John’s Presbyterian Church on Bhimy Damane Street. The safe aims to provide women with an alternative to illegal abortions or abandonment by allowing them to leave their babies in a safe environment. The safe has been operational for over five years.

After placing the baby inside the safe, an alert is triggered and dispatches a signal to local security companies, the SAPS, and emergency services.

Emergency personnel then take the baby to the hospital for a check-up, and the person who placed the baby in the safe remains anonymous.
