Middelburg experiencing significant power outages
Residents are furious after dealing with an ongoing power outage for 15 hours, with no timetable for a resolution.
The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality released a statement stating, “The electrical personnel are currently on-site to determine the cause of the outage and to do fault finding and repairs. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The following areas are without power; a section of Gholfsig, Clubville, Extension 22, the Industrial Area, a section of Mhluzi, a section of Rondebosch and Nasaret.
Aerorand was also affected by the outage, but the municipality has claimed to have restored power to the area, stating, “Power to Aerorand has been restored. The restoration time for other areas will be provided once the faults are located.”
Aerorand residents quickly took to social media to say that they were still without power. Debbie Ehlers posted that there was still no power in Lebombo Street, while Lezanne Venter posted that only portions of Aerorand had been restored.
A resident who lives on Leipoldt Street in Gholfsig expressed her frustration to the Observer, “The power has been off from 05:00, tonight I have to go to a family member’s house to feed and bath my three children. I have no idea if we will need to do the same tomorrow.”
Councillor Hennie Niemann stated that the rain is affecting the testing process that is currently underway and there is currently no restoration time available from the municipality.
