Two men allegedly rob hitchhikers

Two women were allegedly robbed on January 12 after receiving a lift while hitchhiking.

According to the women, they were on the N4 near Rockdale when two men, driving a grey VW Golf, stopped and offered them a lift.

As soon as they entered the vehicle, they sent their sister the registration number (FW 20 JC GP) and took a short video of one of the men, to let their sister know where they were and who they were with.

The women were supposed to go to eMalahleni, but the driver unexpectedly took an alternate route from the N4 onto the old Witbank road (R555).

The two men allegedly took a bank card from one of the victims and then dropped them both off on the side of the road. The bank card was later used in eMalahleni.

Following the traumatic incident, the women sought help, and family members picked them up.

A case was opened with the Middelburg Police and later transferred to Witbank Police Station.

• There has been an increase in hitchhiking robberies this month.

Last Tuesday, a man was robbed by two men in a white Opel with fake registration plates (LG 66 WJ GP) along the Hendrina road (N11).
They stole his cell phone and cash.
