Woman sought for theft of RAF money

Jo-Anne Mantladi Mmela (42) is sought by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for fraud and the theft of Road Accident Fund (RAF) money.

The accused was arrested on September 20, 2022, following an investigation.

She appeared before the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court on September 21, 2022, where she was released on R25 000 bail.

The case was then postponed to December 5, 2022, for further investigation. The accused then disappeared and failed to appear on the given date.

It is alleged that the accused, who was an attorney practising under Mmela and Associates, was appointed to assist with an RAF claim on behalf of a complainant’s child.

The accused submitted the claim to the RAF, the claim was processed, and payments were made into her trust account.

According to the police, the accused redirected the money to someone else’s account and claimed to have made the payments into the victim’s guardian’s account.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mmela is requested to contact the investigator, Warrant Officer Zandile Mashaba, on 082 303 9880.
All information received will be treated with confidentiality.
