Death of Columbus subcontractor sparks investigation

The Columbus Stainless contractor who tragically died while on duty on Tuesday has been identified.

Father of two Rodney Golele (30) worked as a subcontractor driver for a carbon steel scrap supplier.

Information surrounding his death remains unclear, however, reliable sources claim that heavy material fell on him, while others state that the material fell on him while he was in a truck and driving.

The Middelburg Police have opened a culpable homicide case, and the police are investigating the matter.
Mr Golele’s sister, Faith, said her family doesn’t know how her brother died.

In a press statement, Columbus said, “Following the incident, an immediate investigation was launched in coordination with the Department of Labour Inspectors, the South African Police Services, and all related parties to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic event.”

Mr Golele’s sister said her brother worked as a contractor for over four years.

He will be buried on Sunday in Giyani, Limpopo, and is survived by his siblings and two daughters, aged one and four years old.

His sister described him as a jolly, kind and hardworking person who loved his family dearly.
