Man tracked down and arrested for alleged rape

A suspect was tracked down and arrested within two days after allegedly raping a young woman.

A helpless 27-year-old woman walking from a liquor outlet was allegedly dragged into the bushes in the full view of three men and allegedly raped in Machadodorp on Sunday, 25 February at about 21:00.

It alleged that the men never intervened when she was dragged.

The complainant went to the police station to open a case and police wasted no time. They immediately took the victim to the hospital for medical attention and evidence collection.

Police also started tracing the suspect who was arrested at his workplace on Tuesday, 27 February. The 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrate’s Court soon.

Provincial Commissioner Manamela also called upon community members to report when crimes occur in their presence, “besides being raped, the victim could have been murdered,” she warned.
