Motorists urged to steer clear of Brug Street due to student protests

Residents and motorists are urged to be cautious when travelling on Brug Street due to protesting students.

A previous protest in 2019 turned violent when students burnt tyres in front of the main campus in Brug Street.

Students from the Nkangala TVET College were seen gathering tyres earlier this morning. Some students have started burning the tyres near the college.

The students are disgruntled by plans from the NSFAS to pay their accommodation fees directly to landlords instead of to them.

The students started protesting last week. It is not clear when the demonstration will come to an end.

Classes have been suspended for the day.
