Doornkop protesters gathered at STLM

A group of protesters are now gathered at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, where they await the arrival of the executive mayor.

Doornkop residents undertook a peaceful protest from 06:00 this morning (Friday) over the lack of service delivery in their area.

The protest consisted of a short march along the N11 (Loskop), which covered the three to four-kilometre distance from Doornkop’s junction to the G3 Abattoir.

The group then made use of transport to ferry them to the municipal building to hand over a memorandum to Executive Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela.

Ms Lerato Kgomo, head of communications, confirmed the protesters are gathered at the municipality waiting for Mayor Masilela.

Ms Kgomo confirmed the protesters are peaceful, and there are no disruptions in service delivery.

The protesters are gathered at the back of the municipality in the field near the prayer oven.

Despite reports of the N11’s closure earlier this morning, the road is currently open for traffic.
