Protest at municipality disbanded

Protesting residents from Doornkop have disbanded from the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The residents gathered outside STLM where they handed over a memorandum to the Executive Mayor.

According to DA Ward Councillor, Amphia Grobler, she is not in support of the strike, which saw the N11 barricaded by rocks and fires as well as affected scholars and prevented employees from going to work today.

Learners in school uniform can be seen in tow of the gathering protesters, in the photo previously published by the Middelburg Observer.

Cllr. Grobler explained that despite efforts to sink boreholes, giving residents access to clean drinking water, she has seen little support from the striking community most of whom are living on private land.
