Stolen toxic chlorine gas cylinder

Extremely dangerous chlorine gas cylinder stolen, Municipality sends out warning to the community.

The community is hereby notified of a stolen toxic 68kg chlorine gas cylinder.

The chlorine gas cylinder is a very dangerous good, is very harmful and requires a trained person to handle or transport it.

The cylinder is very toxic and can cause suffocation or even death if inhaled.

The colour of the cylinder is yellow, refer to the attached.

The Municipality is requesting assistance from the community to be on the lookout for the missing chlorine cylinder.

It was stolen at Graspan Reservoir (Mhluzi), where it is used for disinfection of potable water.

In an event that leads to the leaking of the toxic chlorine gas, the people involved are advised to escape to the opposite direction where the gas leak is coming from, for safety purposes.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing chlorine gas cylinder can contact the Municipality on 013 249 7344 or 078 421 6870, or report to the nearest police station.
