Mozambican man arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure

A 33-year-old Mozambican man is expected to appear before the Belfast Magistrate Court today, for damaging essential infrastructure after he was arrested by Fidelity and Transnet Security officers in Machadodorp.

It is alleged that yesterday (Tuesday), the security officers were doing their daily patrols when they noticed a group of people tampering with copper cables.

The officers gave chase, and the suspects ran away in different directions.

They managed to apprehend one suspect.

The suspects left behind pieces of copper cables with an estimated value of R80,000.00.

The suspect was charged and detained, pending his court appearance on Wednesday.

The investigation is still underway.
