Middelburg Flying Squad arrests four suspects in possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition

Members of the Middelburg Flying Squad arrested four suspects found in possession of a firearm on Sunday at around 14:35.

According to information, on Sunday, the said members were busy patrolling as well as monitoring the N4 between Kromdraai and the Kusile off-ramp, direction Bronkhospruit when they spotted a silver Toyota Corolla with Gauteng registration number plates which were later found to have been cloned.

The said car was occupied by four males and driving in a high speed.

The members became suspicious and managed to bring it to a halt before a search was conducted.

Whilst searching inside the car, the members discovered a firearm loaded with about five rounds of live ammunition, hidden underneath the carpet on the passenger’s side.

The serial number as well as the firearm’s make and model were filed off.

The four suspects were arrested and charged accordingly and are due to appear at the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 18 June.

The firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it was not previously used in the commission of crime elsewhere leading to further possible charges being added against the suspects as the investigation continues.
