HTS Middelburg ranked as SA’s best rugby side of the week

“There’s a real belief in the town that the once mighty program may be rising!”

HTS Middelburg, the cream of the crop, has been named South Africa’s Best Rugby Team of the Week by NextGenXV.

After emerging victorious in Mbombela against Hoërskool Nelspruit, NextGenXV, known as the home of grassroots rugby, has placed the Rooies ahead of powerhouses such as Affies and Grey College.

NextGenXV gave the following reasoning behind their ranking, “Once a permanent fixture as a top 5 ranked team, it looked like the Rooi Bulle would become yet another technical school left behind. But there’s a real belief in the town that the once mighty program may be rising! Let’s see, and let’s hope!”

The full ranking:

5. Affies

4. Helpmekaar

3. Grey College

2. Garsfontein

1. HTS Middelburg

Despite it being early days, the talented core of HTS Middelburg’s first team cannot be denied.

Expectations are high for the remainder of the campaign, but the Rooi Bulle’s confidence remains higher.
