Failed hijacking near Pullenshope, drivers urged to stay alert

Roads no longer safe at night

A woman driving from Hendrina to Middelburg to deliver goods said she’s never been more traumatised after she was involved in a failed hijacking close to Pullenshope last night.

The incident occurred at 19:20 close to the turn-off to Pullenshope on the N11 Hendrina road.

According to the woman, who shared her ordeal on the local Traffic Alert WhatsApp group and Facebook, she noticed two parked cars at the Pullenshope turn-off on their way to Middelburg.

She thought nothing about the stationary vehicles and drove past them without a second thought.

She alleged that the cars then followed them to Efabantu, where one of the cars overtook them. The car behind them started flashing its lights, signalling them to stop.

According to the woman, as they approached the last turn-off before the N4, the car behind them overtook them and bumped their trailer in an attempt to push them off the road.

She further stated that after they managed to slow down and make a U-turn, the two cars also made a U-turn, “Luckily, a truck driver who was making his way towards Hendrina noticed what was happening and closely escorted us to the Pullenshope turn-off.

When we reported the incident‚ we were told that a few similar incidents had also been reported during the weekend.”

One of the cars was a White Polo and the other was a Grey Avanza.

Several similar incidents were also reported on the N11 Loskop Dam road, with a Mercedes-Benz reportedly involved.

Motorists are urged to be vigilant when travelling on these roads.
