Clothing store robbed in Rockdale Shopping Centre

R50 000 in technology was stolen during an armed robbery.

A group of seven armed robbers made off with goods worth thousands of rands, leaving workers traumatised.

According to Sgt Nonhlanhla Mdluli, Middelburg police media spokesperson, an armed robbery took place yesterday at 10:00 at an Exact Store.

One of the victims reported to the police that while doing stocktaking‚ an unknown man entered the store and asked to use the parcel counter. As he made his way towards the till‚ another unidentified man entered the store and held him at gunpoint. The man then demanded the keys to the cellphone display unit.

He told the police that more unknown assailants entered the store‚ and ordered him and his colleague to lie face down on the floor.

He further added that the suspects used the keys to open the phone display unit and escorted the victims to the bathroom after the robbery. They then fled the scene.

Three tablets and 34 cellphones, worth about R50 000, and R250 cash were stolen during the robbery.

The robbers were not wearing balaclavas.
