Three killed, multiple injured in Dr Mandela Drive collision

A serious collision between three vehicles has left three dead, and multiple injured on Dr Mandela Drive in Middelburg.

An accident involving a Toyota Quantum, an Iveco bus and a contractor’s bakkie was reported at roughly 05:18 this morning on the Cowen Ntuli- and Dr Mandela Drive T-junction, resulting in road closure.

According to information gathered at the scene by a journalist, three people were killed and multiple injured in the collision.

According to David Ross from Ross Towing, the accident is located shortly after the slipway from Cowen Ntuli onto Dr Mandela Drive. Dr Mandela Drive has been closed off from the Cowen Ntuli T-junction to the Samekoms road.

According to Louwtjie Swart from the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group, casualties had to be extricated from some of the vehicles. Traffic is being redirected to Cowen Ntuli Street.

Motorists are advised to make use of alternative routes, as the duration of the road closure cannot be confirmed.

• Another collision has been reported on the R555 (old Witbank road) shortly after the train bridge. Motorists are urged to approach with caution.
