Meyer Street and Beyers Naudé intersection closed

Hopes of Meyer Street reopening have been extinguished, as road works have now spread out.

The Middelburg CBD 2 node, consisting of the area near the Middelburg Observer, has been camped in by expanding road works on Meyer Street.

After a media response issued by Sanral said that road works would be completed by yesterday, even more of Meyer Street has been closed, including its intersection with Dr Beyers Naudé Drive.

Meyer Street has been closed off from the Protea traffic light all the way to Park Street, and traffic driving on Meyer Street is forced into oncoming lanes from the entrance to OK to the break in the meridian before the Sasol Filling Station. According to a motorist, traffic is not being regulated currently.

Dr Beyers Naudé Drive has also been blocked off from Rivier Street to Oos Street.

From what could be seen at the work site, strips of tar surface have been removed for retarring.

The Middelburg Observer has sent an enquiry to Sanral’s press office and awaits feedback.
