Driver injured after losing control on N4

The driver of a Mercedes is alive but seriously injured after losing control of his vehicle on the N4.

The incident took place at roughly 15:00 this afternoon on the N4 between the Hendrina and Bethal off-ramps.

From what could be seen at the scene, the driver appears to have lost control of his vehicle, resulting in him veering onto the embankment and underneath the overpass, before coming to land in the left lane of the highway in Middelburg’s direction.

The impact was so violent that the vehicle’s bonnet, radiator, front fender, the front right wheel as well as the shock absorber was ripped off. The vehicle also rolled.

Provincial ambulance services took the driver to hospital, who was visibly in a lot of pain.

Only the affected lane was closed by the traffic department and traffic was not affected.
