Pursuit of armed robbers underway after hit at jewellers

A group of armed robbers are being pursued after targeting a jeweller at the Middelburg Mall.

A call for assistance was made on emergency WhatsApp groups, reporting an armed robbery at the Touch of Gold Jewellers Middelburg Mall branch at roughly 09:30 this morning.

According to information being shared by those in pursuit of the suspects, five suspects were involved.

Conflicting reports were first received that the getaway vehicle was a white Ford, a white Toyota Starlet, and a white VW Polo.

Local towing services are in pursuit of the vehicle and have confirmed that the vehicle is a VW Polo, which fled in the direction of the N11 Hendrina, turning off on the Tweefontein gravel road.

Initial information suggests that the robbers kicked down the doors at Touch of Gold and left extensive damage in their wake. It cannot be confirmed what was stolen.

The Middelburg Observer has repeatedly tried contacting the general manager at Middelburg Mall, but all current attempts have been unsuccessful.

The owner of Touch of Gold was also contacted for a response and has asked for time to deal with the pressing matters at hand.
