Steve Tshwete celebrates Heritage Day

Middelburg showcases its rich and diverse cultures.

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality celebrated this year’s Heritage Day on Friday at the newly opened Thusong Service Centre in Rockdale.

Various dignitaries, including members of different royal houses around Steve Tshwete, were in attendance, and other cultural and religious groups showcased their diverse practices.

Honourable Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela attended the event, supported by Council Speaker Thato Mathunyane, Municipal Manager Mandla Mnguni, and various other municipal members.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme: ‘Reimagine our Heritage Institutions for a New Era’.

There were performances by over 20 local cultural groups, who showcased their traditional dances and songs.

Various community members, wearing clothes from their heritage, attended the event and were entertained by the different performances.

Banna ka Mapara, Juanita and partner, Indoni Yesizwe Cultural Group, the Steve Tshwete Community Choir, Hlabani Boys, Zekhethelo Cultural Group, and Khoi San Cultural Group entertained the masses.

The festivities truly highlighted the richness of different cultures and heritage in Middelburg.
