Middelburg traffic officer identified after fatal N4 Toll road incident

The traffic officer who was killed after being struck by an LDV on the N4 toll road has been identified.

The provincial traffic officer who died just after midnight this morning after being struck by an LDV at the weighbridge has been identified as Mr Joseph Ntsei, a 49-year-old Principal Provincial Inspector attached to Overload Control in Middelburg.

According to a statement from the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, Ntsei was on duty directing an LDV towing a trailer to the weighbridge when the vehicle reportedly failed to stop and struck him. He died on the scene.

The driver reportedly fled on foot. A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and the police are searching for the suspect.
Macie expressed condolences to Ntsei’s family, friends and colleagues, and urged law enforcement to locate the driver.
