Provincial traffic officer killed at weighbridge

A traffic officer was killed after being struck by a delivery vehicle at the weighbridge.

A provincial traffic law enforcer was killed at about 00:05 this morning at the weighbridge near the N4 Middelburg Toll Plaza, on the Middelburg side.

According to Moeti Mmusi, Head of Communication, Department: Community Safety and Security Liaison, the 49-year-old officer was attempting to stop a light delivery vehicle (LDV) at the weighbridge when the incident occurred. He died on the scene.

“We are deeply saddened by this and appeal to motorists to approach areas where traffic officials are working with caution, and to look out for traffic officials.”

When the police arrived, they found three passengers in the LDV, who reported that the driver had fled the scene.
