Water floods veld in new extension

Houses not even built yet, but pipes are already leaking.

The houses are not yet roof-high, the residents have yet to move in, but the water is already flooding the veld.

The town’s newest extension, Dennesig North, is being plagued by water problems even before the first four houses have been built.

Another leak.

There are already three water leaks in the veld and one on the dirt road on the way to the landfill site.

Dennesig councillor, Johan Dyason, said that he had already been to the different water leaks and reported it to the responsible officials.

And another.

He was willing to show municipal workers where the water is flowing into the veld.

Photos obtained by the Middelburg Observer show how the water is forming dams in large pools, where there are still no houses.

What a waste.

In the meantime, Dennesig and Kanonkop’s water problems continue with regular interruptions due to burst pipes.

Councillor Dyason says it is not new pipes that are bursting, but old asbestos pipes.

The switch to the new pipes should have been done in July, but it has still not been done three months later.
