The Mtsweni family from KwaMhlanga, who lost four family members on the N11 between Doornkop and the turn-off to De Voetpadkloof, told Middelburg Observer that the family were travelling to a housewarming party in Doornkop at the time of the deadly accident.

Nompumelelo Mtsweni (57), Nonhlanhla Mtsweni (59), Samuku Gaelejwe (27), and Lindokuhle Masombuka (9) were all in a white Avanza when it reportedly had a mechanical failure and the driver lost control.

According to Bonginkosi Mtsweni, who is the brother of Nonhlanhla and Nompumelelo said he was left distraught when he learnt of the accident and their passing. He said he was driving not far behind them at the time of the accident.

Bonginkosi described his sisters as loving, hardworking, and kind-hearted, with little Lindokuhle described as an intelligent child who loved sport. Samuku, who was Lindokuhle’s mother, was described as a quite and hardworking young lady.

He added that he will remember them for the different roles they played, the support and love they gave him, and how close they were as a family, “Now that all my sisters are gone, I feel completely alone,” he shared with deep emotion.

• The funeral for the four members will be held on November 1.
