Celebration of Richard Townsend’s life announced

Richard was an inspiration to many, competing in various sporting codes with a partially amputated right arm.

A celebration of Richard Townsend’s life will be held this coming Saturday, following his passing in Groenkloof Hospital on October 26.

Richard was one of only five swimmers to have been honoured for finishing more than 100 Midmar Miles, many of them for charity.

What makes the achievement so unique is the fact that unlike the four other 100+ swimmers, Richard completed his swims with only one lower arm, after his right arm was partially amputated during his teens.

The celebration of Richard’s life will take place on Saturday at Arise Church in Walter Sisulu Street (church entrance in Hoop Street).

The service will start at 13:00.

Attendees are requested to wear formal attire.
