Four killed in head-on collision between Hendrina and Carolina

Authorities urge motorists to reduce speed and stay vigilant in poor weather conditions, after the fatal R38 crash.

Four people died in a horrific head-on collision on the R38 road between Hendrina and Carolina yesterday (Sunday).

According to Moeti Mmusi (head of communications from the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison), two sedans collided head-on.
In one of the cars, two passengers and the driver lost their lives, and in the other car, the driver, who was a sole occupant, died on the scene.

There were no other injuries, and the cause of the crash is being investigated.

The Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, called on motorists to drive cautiously on the road, especially during rainy weather, to avoid deadly crashes, as current weather conditions are affecting visibility.

“We are, therefore, calling for heightened vigilance and stricter adherence to the rules to avoid devastating crashes. Motorists must operate their vehicles in line with prevailing conditions on the road. They must reduce speed and increase following distances,” said Macie.
